Kepco Kits 219-0446, 219-0447 and 219-0448 contain the cables used to connect multiple BOP 1kW power supplies (N) in parallel, where N is either 3, 4 or 5, respectively.

If it is necessary to use these kits for connecting one less than the specified number (N-1), the following instructions must be followed.

CAUTION: It is strongly recommended that a kit not be used for for N-2 configurations, as this could cause system instability.

How to Use a BOP1kW Cable Kit Intended to Parallel N Units for N-1 Units Instead

NOTE: If referenced paragraph numbers change in future versions, use this version of the BOP 1kW-MG Operator manual for reference.
  1. With all BOP 1kW units disconnected from AC Input power, refer to instructions given in the BOP 1kW-MG manual, PAR. 2.8.1 (MULTIPLE UNIT CONNECTIONS) with the following exceptions (see Figure 2-11 for local sensing or Figure 2-12 for remote sensing):
    • Do not use or install the longest of the output power cables for the last Slave (see Table 1 for KIT dependent- Kepco P/N), used for the last slave of the N-units configuration; preserve them for future N-units configuration use. The table below lists the cables from each kit that are not used when going to an N-1 configuration.
    • Do not use or install one 118-1272 Chassis Ground Cable, used for the last slave of the N-units configuration; preserve it for future N-units configuration use
    • Do not use or install one 118-1298 Parallel Control Cable, used for the last slave of the N-units configuration; preserve it for future N-units configuration use
    • Do not use or install one 118-1126 Protection Cable, used for the last slave of the N-units configuration; preserve it for future N-units configuration use
    • Install the 195-0108 Protection Out Termination on the new last slave unit
    • Install the Digital Control (Bitbus) Cable as follows: Connect the plug marked "Master" to the master unit, then connect the next plug to the next slave, and so on, except that the last unit must receive the last plug, while the the next-to-last connector on the cable must remain unconnected.

CABLES NOT USED FOR N-1 PARALLEL CONFIGURATIONS
KIT PART NO. KIT USED FOR
    (N) UNITS IN PARALLEL
    CABLES NOT USED FOR
    (N-1) UNITS IN PARALLEL
    219-0446 3 118-1152, 118-1153
    219-0447 4 118-1154, 118-1155
    219-0448 5 118-1157, 118-1158

  2. Connect the units to AC Input source power and refer to the instructions given in the BOP 1kW-MG manual, PAR. 2.8.4 (CONFIGURING PARALLEL, SERIES, 2 X 2 OR 3 X 2 COMBINATIONS) to configure each unit. Power up one unit at a time, starting with slave units.
  3. Power up the configuration by referring to the instructions given in BOP 1kW-MG manual, PAR. 2.8.5 (POWERING UP SERIES/PARALLEL COMBINATIONS)
  4. Refer to the instructions given in the BOP 1kW-MG manual, PAR. 2.8.6 for operating instructions.

Reverting back to an N-unit configuration using a kit that was used to parallel N-1 units

  1. Verify that the unused cables listed in the table above are available.
  2. With all BOP 1kW units disconnected from AC Input power, refer to instructions given in the BOP 1kW-MG manual, PAR. 2.8.1 (MULTIPLE UNIT CONNECTIONS) (see Figure 2-11 for local sensing or Figure 2-12 for remote sensing).
  3. Connect the units to AC Input source power and refer to the instructions given in the BOP 1kW-MG manual, PAR. 2.8.8 (CHANGING MULTIPLE UNIT CONFIGURATIONS) to change the configuration.
  4. Refer to the instructions given in the BOP 1kW-MG manual, PAR. 2.8.4 (CONFIGURING PARALLEL, SERIES, 2 X 2 OR 3 X 2 COMBINATIONS) to configure each unit. Power up one unit at a time, starting with slave units.
  5. Power up the configuration by referring to the instructions given in BOP 1kW-MG manual, PAR. 2.8.5 (POWERING UP SERIES/PARALLEL COMBINATIONS)
  6. Refer to the instructions given in the BOP 1kW-MG manual, PAR. 2.8.6 for operating instructions.
