DC Power System (DCPS)The RA 55-V chassis has nine slots: seven configurable slots for MST-MV 200 watt power modules which are controlled by a plug-in digital programmer (MST 488-27V) installed in a dedicated slot. Kepco’s MST-MV Power Supplies provide drop-in solutions for extending the life of Automated Test Systems such as the Elgar VXP 3000 power system without the need to rewrite and re-validate Test Program Sets (TPS). MST--MV's are drop-in replacements with matching con-nectors and lugs. No need to per-form labor intensive rewiring. MST-MV are two-quadrant con-stant voltage/constant current power supplies with programma-ble polarity/disconnect switch-ing relays built-in. The MST-MV modules plug in from the front and may be unplugged and removed without shutting down the entire power system.
N+1 redundancy is provided with forced current sharing when like MST-MV modules are mounted together and wired in parallel. Nine different modules are offered from a 0-6V/20A unit to a 0-150V/1.2A rating. Each module is equipped with internal load disconnect relays and polarity reversal relays. Series configurations allow for higher voltages.
Each MST-MV module contains a single address, multiple instrument serial port. It is a 2-wire serial bus operating at 375KHz that can address as many as 27 separate modules of either the MST, MAT or MBT design. This bus can interface directly to a PC or to a GPIB controller.
A second dedicated slot of the RA 55-V accepts Kepco’s Auxiliary Drive Module (MST-ADM)). The MST-ADM is an analog programmer, controlled by SCPI or ABLE commands via GPIB, that outputs analog voltages to control other power supplies, such as Kepco's 200V KLP 200-12A power supply, or any any power supply that is controllable by an analog voltage, including Kepco's Series BOP, ATE, MAT and JQE power supplies. Additional RA 55-V chassis may be added to allow up to 27 channels of MST power supplies and other compatible supplies. The RA 55-V comes with stan-dard IEEE 488 and RS 232 ports. Ether-net (LAN) and USB ports are optional. The V-series systems are configurable using up to three RA 55-V 9-slot chassis. The MST 488-27V Con-troller controls up to 27 power modules from a single GPIB address. The MST-ADM Auxiliary Drive Module are avail-able for controlling other analog-controlled power supplies up to 150kW. The RA 55-V chassis comes with connectors that allow the use of existing wiring and can be configured for redundant input a-c.
The four main ACPS outputs are designated PHASE-A,PHASE-B, PHASE-C and PHASE-D. Each phase floats and has high and low output pins as well as a SENSE-HI and SENSE-LO pin pair to provide remote sensing. In addition, each phase has an associated auxiliary output whose voltage tracks its main output. The voltage at the AUX output of a phase is 22.6% of the phase's main output voltage. Each AUX output also floats, and has high and low output pins. All outputs have an independently controllable isolation relay. Each phase can be programmed separately or in the following combinations: A-B-C, A-B, A-C,or B-C. The Kepco RA 55-A Chassis has five slots which accommodate the four digitally programmable BOP 135-7AC Power Modules. The TMA-ACPS controller is installed in slot 01 of the RA 55-A Chassis to provide communication between a Host computer and the BOP Power Modules.
Background: The demands to extend the useful lives of defense and aerospace platforms decades beyond their original design life expectancy creates real challenges. For example, B-52's that were first flown in 1955, are now planned to be used until 2040. The Automated Test Systems used to support these platforms have to be updated to continue to function. Many of the original power supplies in these ATS's were made by companies that either are no longer in business, or for those that are still open, these older models are no longer supported or manufactured. Kepco's MST's are modern power supplies which will be manufactured and supported for decades to come. Problems/recommendations for updating hardware without having to rewrite Test Program Set (TPS) is described in detail in the paper "Don/t Touch My TPS", originally presented at Autotestcon 2023. |
