Conventional power supplies provide power to a load in just one direction. Programmable power supplies can allow the user to vary the level under analog or digital control. In many test and simulation applications, the ability to change polarity becomes useful. This capability can be added to a conventional single quadrant power supply by the use of a polarity-reversing relay. The ability, however, to control output smoothly through zero requires a true bipolar power supply. Such power supplies have existed for a number of years in power sizes up to 400 watts. Now, Kepco is introducing high power bipolar power supplies up to 2000 watts, High Power BOP.
